As a citizen of the US it’s not like I have a chance to participate in this but still find it fascinating anyways. In a push to promote IE8, Microsoft Australia has created a hidden website that can only be viewed in IE8. There will be clues posted daily on Twitter that will lead you to the site, and the first to find it will win the 10 grand. As a recent sign up of Twitter, I’ve found that it can be a fascinating way to faciliate business leads – instead of keeping your buddies informed that you are doing your laundry or making dinner. I originally stumbled on this at Neowin.net here and I agree with them that it will be very interesting to see how much the downloads for IE8 sparks after word gets out on this competiton.

Going back to my last post about the free TechNet subscriptions- I can now say it has been taken back! The whole trial was part of market research program put on by a 3rd party company hired by MS. In their email they broke it to me by saying ‘We are very sorry for the inconvenience, but for this reason, we have deactivated your subscription, as well as all other subscriptions resulting from the unauthorized publication of the TechNet Plus Pilot Study program registration link on a public blog. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience.’ The link was originally posted on the aforementioned Newowin.net and was a huge hit. The keys that were generated for the accounts are no good and have been blacklisted. Much ado about nothing in the end, and no freebies from MS- suprise suprise.
