Free TechNet Subscription, Vista woes
After my install of SP2 for Vista, I have to say I have not seen much that has impressed me. I now having an odd issue which I’ve found reported as a problem in some of the beta releases of SP2 involving task manager. When you open it, the icon appears in the task tray however you can’t actually view the app. I found that opening a command line and killing the process brings it up in the end. I’ve also had some odd issues with reliablity around opening office docs, particularly excel. I haven’t been able to come up with a common point yet so I won’t fully blame it on Vista yet. Never the less, with MS revealing an 10/22 release date for Windows 7, the itch for an RTM is getting worse and worse.
On a better note, today (not sure for how long) Microsoft is giving away a free 3 month subscription to TechNet, which among other things allows you to get some freebie software. Sign up here. The servers were hammered earlier when I was accessing them but I’ve found it a little bit easier to sign up as of late this afternoon. Others have said the same.
