BlackBerry Duplicates, Spiceworks 4.1, Printer HELL
With a forecast of near 100 degrees and humid today, I am very thankful I work inside. However, what a Monday it has been. We recently finished our trial of BlackBerry Enterprise and have since implemented the BB Professional Server. Two of our users, one of which is an Admin, experience duplicate adderss book and calendar entires upon reconnecting to the new BPS. My question is, why is it such a process in to clear information out on the BB device? I love BB, don’t get me wrong. I am a huge advocate on the BES/BPS software and think it runs circles around the competiton. One area it can improve on would be the ease of removing sync’d data from the phone. One thing ActiveSync actually has going for it is how easy it is to remove sync’d items from the phone. Simple as unchecking a box. Maybe I am missing it, but I just cant seem to get my hands around anything on the blackberry that is similar, wether it be server side or device side. My process for clearing the duplicate entries ended up being:
1. Stopped wireless sync
2. Connected to desktop manager
3. Backup and cleared address book
4. Turned wireless sync back on
5. Resend the service book
This cleared them from the address book, and going foward new calendar items were not duplicating. For the time its worth, they can deal with the next 2 weeks of previously scheduled events being duplicated. Oh and by the way, it took two attempts at resending the service book to get it right.
On another note, Spicworks 4.1 was released last week and I ran the update this week. The biggest change in this update in my eyes is the support of HTML email, which looks like it may be a little bit buggy out of the box. I’m getting random = signs in my ticket responses, but knowing the SpiceWorks dev team, they will be quick to fix. If you are a user, it may be worth noting that there is also a known bug with the weekly notifications where it sends out to all registered users who have created tickets (assuming you have AD integration setup). This is already noted by SW dev team that a fix is in the works. By the time you read this, it will probably already be corrected! I could also go on for a few more paragraphs on color multifunction printers, but I promised myself that I would not make this blog an outlet for gripes. Send me a private message if you want to here more. This about sums it up.
