Spiceworks 4.5, a highly anticipated update will be released today 12/11. This is the 17th release for the team in 3 1/2 years and kudos has to go out to the development team who has put out 3 beta releases in the last 3 days. This new release features a new Microsoft SQL Monitoring solution for keeping an eye on your SQL server performance. Some of the highlights include:
- - Automatically detect SQL Servers on your network
- - Get instant access to data charts indicating server help
- – Create multiple midgets to monitor the information most important to you.
The release also includes HTTPS/SSL support so you can securely open up your help desk portal to the web. This is possible because of the recent switch to the Apache back end. Larger networks will see better control over the scan schedule, with the ability to set custom scan schedules for IP ranges.

The help desk also gets a huge upgrade with the implementation of rules for incoming tickets. The idea here is to set rules based on ticket text to route tickets to the right person and close them quicker.
