I deal with my fair share of start up owners on a regular basis consulting and follow countless others online. You so often see people who are so far ahead of themselves and are so focused on becoming the next big thing. The reality is that you can create a substantial income without ever really being the next internet hit. I listened to a podcast today that I enjoyed very much. The idea was that there is such a cause for emergency with startups that they are lost in the shuffle because they forget about one key concept – build it, sell it, or do it a step better than your competitors. There is also such a huge focus on gaining funding, and attracting angel investors or venture capitalists that there are some very basic fundamental steps that can be missed. The speaker is not only funny but very inspirational. It’s a bit of a gut check for anyone who is starting up their own business and building a foundation.

The podcast is from the owner of 37signals, a web based software company. It’s about a half hour long, but well worth the listen. Check it out here @ 37signals.
