The dreaded ‘Red X’. Blackberry Admins know this all to well when a user goes to send an email on their device and get’s a Send error for the Desktop account. It’s now happened on two occasions where I have followed the very well laid out steps from RIM (seen here) for setting up the BESAdmin service account, yet on a rare occasion when setting up a new user the send as permissions seem to get removed. What really makes me scratch my head is that some users are still able to send without any issue, while others continue to have the problem. What really kills me is that I would go as far as removing the user and readding them and reactivating the device with no luck. Who would think that the permissions would dissapear and that would be the root cause? Not me. It’s not even like we are a large operation, there are only 2 of us here in the IT dept, and the other is not tinkering with any permissions. Whatever the case, if you are having send as issues with BES- don’t think twice about checking the BESAdmin permissions as you will save yourself alot of time and aggervation if you check it right away. I have a feeling it’s not really RIM’s fault, but some other application or service that is destroying the inheritance. Either way its annoying, and the point of this article is that if you are having send as errors, your best best is to just double check the BESAdmin permissions.

Yeah, that red X sucks. I have a few issues with my BB. I’ve been faithful but it may be time to (dum, dum, dum) switch to the iphone!
